Bernie Sanders on Tuesday launched his second presidential campaign, within ten hours raised over three million dollars, and tapped Faiz Shakir to be his Campaign Manager.
The Senator from Vermont is a Democratic Socialist and is running alongside Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Amy Klobuchar, along with former HUD Secretary Julian Castro and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, among others, in the hunt for the Democratic nomination.
During his 2016 presidential campaign, he narrowly lost the Democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton, who then lost to the now Republican President Donald Trump. However, Bernie’s supporters have since aided in the mainstreaming of socialist policies within the Democratic party.
Bernie formerly ran on the basis of wanting to create a universal health care system, climate change reform, and a $15 federal minimum wage. Further, Bernie reiterated his plan to push some of these promises during an interview with Vermont Public Radio.
In addition, Sanders tapped Faiz Shakir, who worked for the American Civil Liberties Union where he served as the National Political Director since early 2017. Before joining the ACLU, he was a senior adviser to the then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), and before that he worked with House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
Shakir first made a name for himself as an editor at the website ThinkProgress, the news arm associated with, though editorially independent of, the powerhouse Democratic think-tank Center for American Progress.
Further, Faiz Shakir has implied that the word ‘America’ is exclusionary and divisive, specifically when President Donald Trump uses it.
Bernie Sanders since announcing his bid for presidency has managed to raise over $3.3 million and counting because of the small donations from over 120,000 people.
The Independent Senator is running for President with some of the same promises from his 2016 Presidential candidacy; Health Care for all, $15 federal minimum wage, and to create his version of the radical green new deal.
In an email to his supporters, the Senator said that he will complete the revolution in 2020; “Together, you and I and our 2016 campaign began the political revolution. Now, it is time to complete that revolution and implement the vision that we fought for.”
In 2016, Bernie Sanders was an outsider with radical ideas; who was naive, idealistic, and not realistic. However, now, and for 2020, Bernie Sanders has gained the support of nearly every leading Democratic contender according to Waleed Shahid a Democratic strategist and the communications director for Justice Democrats.
Bernie Sanders is planning a democratic socialist ‘revolution’ of sorts for the United States, one that could reshape the US into a far-left nation. Further, the senator has also historically made known his opposition to Christians, in 2017, Bernie verbally attacked the then-nominee Russell Vaught for his personal religious beliefs.
